Digital Video and CelAction, two of the leading European animation software developers, announced today a strategic partnership which sees CelAction reselling and marketing Digital Video’s well-respected Toonz product range to complement their portfolio.
Toonz Harlequin is full-featured software for traditional animation used by some of the most prestigious animation studios in the world, allowing both scanned drawings and paperless digital drawings to be coloured, manipulated and animated with a full range of compositing effects. Toonz Bravo is a slimmed-down version of Harlequin that focuses on just the paperless aspects of production. Both versions feature the innovative Plastic tool for deforming vector and bitmap images.
"CelAction are a growing company with global ambitions and a lot of experience in the industry on key productions," said Digital Video's Claudio Mattei. "They are the perfect partners for us to confirm Toonz as the number one product for hand-drawn animation."
"We’re extremely proud to be chosen by Digital Video to represent their distinguished and much-loved products," said Andy Blazdell, CEO of CelAction. "Now we can add traditional animation to our range of software solutions, giving us the ability to cater to all companies in the 2D animation market."
CelAction are also very active in the educational field, and believe Toonz Harlequin is the ideal way to preserve hand-drawn animation skills.
“We’ve had a lot of enquiries recently from educators looking for ink-and-paint software that maintains the detail of the original drawing exactly, without losing the charm and artistry,” continued Andy. “Toonz Harlequin is by far the best software for scanning in animation from paper, and will go a long way to stop these skills being lost forever.”
Toonz Harlequin and Toonz Bravo are available for Windows and Mac OSX.

As of 8th April 2014, Microsoft has discontinued support for Windows XP, meaning that there will be no new security patches. Therefore, running Windows XP will become more and more risky over time. CelAction2D still runs on Windows XP, but if you insist on continuing to use Windows XP, we recommend that you do not allow your machine to connect to the internet. Two of the top three most influential brands of 2013 used CelAction2D in their major productions, according to the Power List launched by Licensing.biz. In the Characters & Entertainment category, Peppa Pig took the number one slot and Moshi Monsters came in at number three.
Following an incredible year in 2013 that surpassed all our expectations, CelAction2D continues to be the fastest growing 2D animation software on the market. After helping create the Moshi Monsters movie in record time and being identified as the must-have skill for animators by the UK's Creative Skillset, we have also been putting the finishing touches to the latest version of CelAction2D.
In addition, we have developed a new vector technology for the upcoming new series of Mr. Bean. Initially this was to be a separate product, but we took the decision last summer to include it in CelAction2D Version 4 as part of the core code. This delayed the launch of Version 4, but will put much greater power into the hands of CelAction2D customers at no extra cost. This new technology is called Vectrinsic, so watch out for more announcements soon.
So with the new wave of training happening in several countries, and our push into new territories worldwide, 2014 will be a great year to be a CelAction2D user.
We look forward to welcoming you aboard.
